Meet the Quilter
A little about me...My name is Kristin Hoftyzer. My husband and I live on an acreage in northwest Iowa with our 3 children.
My sewing experience goes back to 8th grade in home economics. One of my first projects was sewing an apron, that I still use today. As time went on, I taught myself to sew, mostly making clothing. After getting married & having a full-time job, most of my time spent with my sewing machine was patching jeans with holes in the knees. In 1997 I checked out a quilting book at the library & went to the local fabric store to get started. I decided I would make a baby quilt...and I have been hooked on quilting ever since. I have found quilting to be a great way to fulfill a need to be creative.
My least favorite part of the quilting process was basting the layers together to prepare for quilting. I spent many hours on the floor on my hands & knees putting in all those little safety pins, thinking there must be a better way. Then one day I saw well-known quilter Linda Taylor using a "longarm quilting machine" on PBS. I was very intrigued to say the least and I just knew that I wanted to learn how to use a longarm machine. I started researching the different machines available & finally found a Gammill Classic that was just right for me. I have been completing quilts for customers since January 2003.
In 2008, I upgraded to an A-1 quilting machine, and in 2009, I added an Intelliquilter computerized system to that machine. I am excited to be able to offer computerized capabilities to my customers. With the Intelliquilter, a whole new world of digitized patterns is available. There are hundreds of digital patterns, so there is always one just right for your quilt. From floral to sports to feather designs, the Intelliquilter stitches out each one with consistency and accuracy.
